The Vujicsics ensemble and Söndörgő held a joint concert on 3rd February 2017 in the Hungarian Institute in Zagreb.
The Vujicsics Ensemble nurtures diverse and rich folk music traditions of Croatian and Serbian minorities in Hungary and it is well known and popular both in their homeland and abroad. The ensemble was founded in Pomáz in the spring of 1974, as the orchestra of the local nationality dance ensemble. The ensemble is named after Tihamér Vujicsics, composer and folk music researcher, who was one of the ensemble’s most important helper. In 2014 they received the Kossuth Prize, Hungary’s most prestigious artistic and literary honour.
Söndörgő was founded in 1995 in Szentendre and their path was set by family ties with the Vujicsics ensemble and fascination for Croatian and Serbian folk music. They are primarily composing and performing music on tamburica, also on wind instruments and percussions, as well as on accordion and they are able to faithfully play authentic Balkan music styles. Nowadays Söndörgő is performing in the most prestigious concert halls and on the international arena they are regarded as one of the best world-music formations.
