On 29 January  2021, the LNG terminal on the island of Krk was officially opened. The terminal was symbolically put into operation by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković. The event was attended by Tomislav Coric, Minister of Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development, and Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic, as well as  Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The head of Hungarian diplomacy emphasized that the commissioning of the terminal is a historic moment, as it has become possible for the Central European region to purchase gas from several sources. Hungary has booked a significant part of the terminal's capacity for the next seven years.

Following the ceremonial opening of the terminal, Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade held an informal meeting with his partner Tomislav Coric, Minister of Economic Affaires and Sustainable Development.
