On June 1, 2022, the laying of the foundation stone for the new elementary school building in Petrinja, built from the donation of the Hungarian government, took place. In his speech, State Secretary Miklós Soltész emphasised that the Hungarian government provided assistance to the affected country of Croatia immediately after the earthquake, which is a clear sign of the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Referring to the bilateral events of recent weeks, the Foreign Minister urged Croatian partners not to resign themselves to attempts to question or destroy the excellent Hungarian-Croatian relations. The State Secretary announced that this summer, with the support of the Hungarian government, 100 children from Petrinja will again spend their vacations at Lake Venice.


The foundation ceremony was attended by Zdenko Lucić, State Secretary for Foreign Economic Relations and International Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Gordan Hanžek, State Secretary of the State Office responsible for renovation and housing, Róbert Jankovics, Hungarian representative of Sabor, Magdalena Komes, Mayor of Petrinja, Darjan Vlahov, Head of the Department of Economy, Investments, Development Projects and EU Funds of Sisak-Moslavina County and Robert Groza, principal of the No. 1 Petrinja Primary School. The foundation stone was blessed by Marko Cvitkušić, the head vicar of the Sisak diocese.
