The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Gordan Jandrokovic paid an official visit to Hungary on the 10th of October. He held discussions with the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament, László Kövér in Budapest, and also met with the President of Hungary, János Áder. During a joint press conference on bilateral relations, László Kövér said: “we must not forget that there are much more things that unite us than those that divide us”. The Hungarian Speaker of Parliament underlined Hungary’s intentions to foster bilateral relations also in the framework of regional cooperation. In this regards cooperation in the field of energy and transport, in which the whole Central-European region has interests were also mentioned.  László Kövér also spoke about the two Speakers’ idea to organise a joint conference of Croatian and Hungarian historians in the Hungarian Parliament, marking the 150th anniversary of the Hungaro-Croatian reconciliation in 2018.

Gordan Jandrokovic expressed his satisfaction with the meeting, which served to review a number of bilateral issues ranging from cross-border cooperation to the issue of minority protection. According to Jandrokovic the protection, both sides grant to each other’s national minorities are exemplary. The Croatian Speaker also explained that the main goal of his visit was to demonstrate friendly relations between Croatia and Hungary. Highlighting the importance of the atmosphere of cooperation between the two parliaments, which is also conducive to solving bilateral open questions.
