Hungarian and Croatian presidents meet on the occasion of marking the Battle of Szigetvar 07.08.2016.

On the 7th of August 2016, marking the 450th anniversary of the battle of Szigetvár, Hungarian and Croatian Presidents, along with Turkish deputy prime minister Veysi Kynak, participated a commemoration in Szigetvár. In his address, János Áder Hungarian President underlined: “Nikola Šubić Zrinski Croatian Ban gave his life, as Croatian and Hungarian, for the values continued to serve as the basis for modern Europe, complying with his duties to protect Christian civilization.” Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Croatian President deemed that the military virtues of Zrinski are equally important in the time of peace. By marking the anniversary of the battle we also pay tribute to democracy, human rights and dignity and the equality of nations”. During their program the two Presidents visited the Educational Center “Miroslav Krleža” of Pécs, and attended the liturgical service of the renovated Reformed Christian Calvinist Church in the Baranja village of Karanac which celebrated the 200th anniversary of its consecration.
