10th Hungarian Cuisine Day

Through a variety of cultural and culinary programs a hungarian town Hévíz presented itself in the Hungarian Liszt Institute and at Europe Square to introduce the values of this beautiful place to more than 120 guests.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Town of Hévíz had the opportunity to present itself as part of the Hungarian Cuisine Day, which was organized for the tenth time by the Embassy of Hungary in cooperation with the Liszt Institute as an opening program for the 2026 fall season.

The delegation from Hévíz was led by the Mayor of Hévíz, Mr. Péter Naszádos. In the morning, Chargé d'Affaires Dr. Klára Galli-Baronfeind received the delegation at the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb.

In her opening remarks at the Liszt Institute, the Director of the Liszt Institute, Ms. Dr. Anna Mladenovics, greeted all the guests and attendees. In his welcome speech the Mayor, Mr. Péter Naszádos emphasized the role of cross-border friendships and the importance of cooperation and getting to know each other's values. Chargé d'Affaires Klára Galli-Baronfeind spoke about the gastronomic diversity of Hungary, the importance of the opening event, and highlighted its charitable nature.

Ms. Nikolina Radić Štivić, Deputy Head of the City Office for Culture and Civil Society and representative of the City of Zagreb was also participating in the event, and in her speech highlighted the importance and recognition of the Liszt Institute's work and its contribution to the cultural life of the City of Zagreb.

Members of the Council of the Hungarian National Minority of the City of Zagreb traditionally joined the event, enriching the picnic with traditional Hungarian goulash that they cooked in a cauldron in front of the Institute on European Square.

In a presentation, Péter Naszádos introduced the uniqueness, medicinal effect, and history of Lake Hévíz, and alongside many interesting facts, he emphasized that Hévíz is only a two-hour drive from Croatia's capital, making it an excellent tourist destination and recreational opportunity for Zagreb residents.

The atmosphere was raised by the performance of the Vagabond Trió band. At least fifty people completed the quiz composed of local history questions about Hévíz, and thanks to the sponsorships, the prize of the winner was a weekend in Hévíz for two people.

Thanks to Hévíz, the Institute showcase was renewed, and for the next six months, the people of Zagreb can visit the Institute and see pictures presenting the town of Hévíz on Europe Square.
